Population Pyramids
Population Pyramids are based upon a country's
fertility rates, mortality rates, and immigration.
A Population Pyramid is the analysis of a population by gender and age at a given point in time (Population pyramid, 2015).
What is a
Population Pyramid?
The shape of a population pyramid
provides information about a country's
birth rates, death rates, and life expectancy.
There are two types of dependants:
-
young dependants (under age 15)
-
elderly dependants (over age 65)
What are dependants?
Shape
By observing the shape of a population pyramid, one can determine a country's stage of development based on the Demographic Transition Model.
The dependant population does not work
and depends upon the working population
for financial support and necessities.
A Population Pyramid indicates the number of dependants within a population.
The shape of a Population Pyramid is essential to the interpretation of an area's population.
